Para-Painting

Not Mama’s Umbrella is an installation made for the 40th celebration of independance of Suriname in 2015. Koldewijn’s concept is about the universal wish of every human being to be able to look after yourself; to be autonomous.

In 2018 Renée Koldewijn organised a workshop ‘Para-Painting’ at the Afrikamuseum in Berg en Dal. People were encouraged to paint un umbrella in their personal style. In that way visitors participated in the installation, which turned out into a forest of walking umbrella’s. Everybody went home with their own unique umbrella, an image of diversity and connection.
